The importance of taking a mental break for yourself.
Hello Everyone!
Over the past 10 days, I have been traveling, visiting family and getting away from my normal surrondings. It seemed like everyone from my doctors and friends, to family, believe that I tend to stress too much about things in life I have little control over.
So I took a break. While I was gone, I missed what I had started here, writing this blog to bring forward a different subject I find important.
During my trip I kept a journal. An actual pen and paper journal. No computer and used my phone as a camera to take pictures so that one day if I forget what I saw I would always have a way to remember.
Epicurus, a Greek philosopher, wrote "It is better for you to be free of fear and lying on a bed of straw than to own a couch of gold and lavish table and yet have no peace of mind."
I find myself like many people, wondering what I will do about money or a job. What I have figured out is to have simple experiences to free my mind, like sitting on a beach or watching a sunset, to help me reflect and serve as a reminder how fortunate I am to be here on this Earth each and everyday. I am a human being. One day I will not wake up to experience the simple things life shows me everyday. If I do not allow myself to be open to seeing and listening to what is around me I will miss out. Sometimes you have to make the choice to go find these experiences.
Take some time for yourself. Realize an experience stays with you forever. You went there. You took it in. That experience, especially the good parts, provide the positive fuel you need when times are rough or you feel down. Those experiences can pull you through until you are able to create the next one. Anything you put in your head, good or bad, belongs to you. No one can go in and remove them. The material things of this world are just that, material. We cannot take things with us when we pass on, but positive memories will be with us forever.
There is one saying that is told to me quite often. Fill your bucket, and when you feel it getting low, refill it. Fill your bucket today.
I am glad to be back and I hope that I have helped you think about a positive experience that motivates you to take that next step forward.
As Always,
Ali
